Why PwC

Why PwC

To change something, we have to change something

Our strength is not only in contributing our expertise, but also in standing by our colleagues and clients as a reliable partner. Through close collaboration and the exchange of knowledge and ideas, we create sustainable solutions that truly make a difference. We coach, develop, and work hand in hand to achieve the best results – for everyone.

Our Culture

Our corporate culture consists of three building blocks

Evolved PwC Professional: EPP

Building trust in society and solving important problems – that's what we at PwC see as our mission. In Austria, we support our clients as a one-stop shop in numerous areas. The public sector, banks, and leading local and global companies, from family businesses to multinational corporations, rely on our expertise.

"We are a Community of Solvers" – We deliver bold ideas, solutions from people for people, supported by pioneering technology. Whether starting through a traineeship, direct entry, internship, or alongside your studies; whether you have a passion for numbers, law, technology, or the environment: We rely on innovative minds who contribute their personal expertise to our international network.

We don't just work with a purpose, we work for it. In everything we do, we place great value on quality, integrity, and inclusive collaboration. These values form the foundation of our daily actions. With a clear focus on what truly matters, we are committed to achieving success together and developing ourselves personally in the process.

Together they form our framework, based on the two dimensions of “Trusted Leadership” and “Distinctive Outcomes”. Whether intern, manager, partner, etc. – the EPP determines how we contribute to ourselves, our clients, and the communities we serve.

DEI – Diversity, Equity & Inclusion

Our society is changing, markets are evolving, and customer requests are becoming more complex. We are responding to this development with greater diversity and enhanced expertise. This is reflected in our team and in our management.

Different ways of thinking, experiences, educations, needs, and cultures make us who we are. Our Inclusion & Diversity team is committed to ensuring a discrimination-free and barrier-free work environment and is constantly implementing measures to maintain our high standards.

For example, we are a long-standing MyAbility partner, are delighted by the strong growth of our queer business network SHINE, advocate for greater equality in business through our Women Network – and never tire of providing all talented individuals with the environment they need to reach their full potential.

Why do we value Inclusion & Diversity so much?

1

Because we need the best talent to best solve today's challenges. Talent is as diverse as it is unique and is not related to factors such as age, gender, ethnicity, sexual orientation, religion, and/or disability!

2

Because we want to meet the requirements of our customers: The composition of our teams and our approach as a global player to the topics of inclusion and diversity are becoming increasingly important.

3

Because it's the right thing to do: Fairness and objectivity are cornerstones of our corporate culture. This also applies to the hiring and professional development of our employees.

Our Initiatives and Cooperations

The fight against prejudice begins in everyday (working) life. Through targeted workshops and training sessions, we raise our employees' awareness of the dangers of unconscious cognitive biases and how to overcome them in daily practice. In this way, everyone actively contributes to a more inclusive work environment – an important step towards a culture of inclusion.

Since 2016, we have been supported by myAbility, a management consultancy that helps companies leverage the potential of people with disabilities as clients and employees. We are delighted to regularly participate in the myAbility Talent® program, which connects top students with disabilities or chronic illnesses with Austrian companies. These young talents initially benefit from tailored career workshops and job coaching before gaining in-depth experience at PwC through exciting job shadowing opportunities.

Furthermore, we have been supporting the myAbility Business Forum's annual main event for years to raise awareness of the topic of business and disability. The DisAbility Confidence Day has become an established event in the Austrian business community and a platform for greater inclusion.

We expressly encourage people with disabilities to apply. Should you have any questions about the application process or require support, Denise-Celine Pfneiszl will be happy to assist you. Please do not hesitate to contact her so we can ensure you receive the best possible support for your application. You can contact her via Email.

We signed the Diversity Charter "Charta der Vielfalt", a voluntary commitment by Austrian companies, institutions, and organizations, by signing which they pledge respect for all members of society – without exception. In doing so, we were the first major auditing firm to set an example in 2016.

Why is sexual identity important at work? At PwC, we talk about it openly. Of course, work and private life are separate, but we still always bring a part of ourselves to work.

When a colleague talks about their vacation with their partner or a female colleague shares their first apartment with their partner, that's perfectly normal for us at PwC – it's simply part of who we are. At PwC, it's not just about tolerance, but about full acceptance. That's why we actively address the needs of the LGBTQIA+ community and promote networking and support for all employees through regular events of our Shine Network – regardless of their sexuality or identity.

Many Austrian companies, including us at PwC Austria, support the RBI's initiative for non-discriminatory blood donations. Our goal is to create a work environment where everyone can be themselves. This also means that no one is excluded from our blood donation drives because of their sexual orientation or identity. Experts say such exclusions are medically and legally unnecessary.

Together, we succeeded: Since September 2022, there has been a new blood donation regulation that only considers the individual risk of sexually transmitted diseases ("3-3-3 rule").

More than 50% of PwC Austria's employees are women, with over 40% of management positions held by women – but that's far from enough for us. To build a united front against discrimination in business, a strong network is essential.

The members of our Women's Network are actively committed to fostering exchange among women and supporting all colleagues in reaching their full potential and achieving success. In addition to cross-functional networking, the Women's Network regularly organizes informal gatherings and events for knowledge sharing and mutual inspiration.

Parental leave and part-time work arrangements offer the necessary flexibility to reconcile career development with the role of parent. Part-time work and individual working time models are particularly crucial for combining an active parental role with job demands.

We actively promote the inclusion of fathers during parental leave and encourage them to take their leave. As an employer, we see it as our responsibility to support families and offer solutions – because this benefits not only the parents and children, but also the company.

Wellbeing

We are especially grateful to our employees for their independence, flexibility, and team spirit. Personal commitment and perseverance are essential in our industry every day. That's why we take care of ourselves and each other on the team – because physical and mental health are our most valuable assets.

Our steps towards a healthy work environment:

Flexibility is not just a strategy, but also an attitude. We foster a work environment characterized by mutual respect, enjoyment of work, and responsibility.

Since 2010, we have been continuously working to improve the work-life balance, for which we have received the state-certified "Audit berufundfamilie" certificate for the fifth time. Our family-friendly commitment is based on a comprehensive definition of family that includes all employees' close family members. In this way, we create a modern, flexible corporate culture that accommodates different life phases and circumstances.

Together, as part of the audit, we developed comprehensive measures to promote work-life balance, including:

  • Flexible working hours and part-time options, including at the management level
  • Flexwork, home office and working remotely
  • Study leave and reduced hours during exam periods
  • Activity-based working, which offers task-oriented work environments
  • Support through parental leave services, such as parental leave folders and return-to-work consultations
  • Family time: in addition to the legally required two days after the birth of a child, we give all expectant parents three extra days
  • Childcare at Leopoldi
  • Events such as children's events, office tours and parental leave breakfasts strengthen the connection between family and workplace

„You can't really go wrong. The only wrong thing is to look away.”

#MentalHealthMatters: According to the WHO, nearly one in three people will experience at least one mental illness in their lifetime. Despite this, many still find it difficult to talk about it and ask for help. In acute situations, during mental health crises and other stressful situations, whether in private or professional life, it is crucial to act quickly and initiate the correct emergency response chain. For this reason, PwC Austria supports "Mental Health First Aid."

In the first round of our initiative, 27 colleagues with diverse backgrounds and from several PwC locations successfully completed training to become certified "Mental Health First Aiders."

With their trained awareness, they recognize early signs of mental stress in the workplace and serve as the first point of contact and a trusted confidant for our colleagues. As mental health first aiders, they are always available to listen and support employees in taking the right steps in times of crisis – because, whether professional or personal, there is no holistic health without mental health.

As an employer, we take our responsibility for mental health seriously and, through our partner Instahelp, offer our employees free, quick, and easy access to professional psychological counseling. The counseling services cover a wide range of issues, from sleep deprivation and parenting problems to work-related stress.

Regular health events with inspiring speakers and training on mental health offer tips and tricks for physical health.

Annual health check-ups, health advice, and vaccinations are offered directly by our company doctor.
